Activities of Laboratory apply to:

  • Testing of physical, chemical and aging characteristics of plastics, rubber, friction materials, materials for gaskets and seals, fabrics, and other non-metallic materials, for conformity with the requirements of PN, ISO, ASTM, DIN, FIAT Product Specifications, and other standards.
  • Examining of the structural and strength characteristics of metallic materials.
  • Testing of products, vehicle parts and components for conformity with automotive industry requirements, including post-accident examinations.
  • Testing of material processability and performance.
  • Testing of physical and physical and mechanical properties of paint and metallic protective coatings.
  • Testing of the resistance of protective coatings and structural materials to the impact of aggressive atmospheres, liquid environments, and temperatures.
  • Preparing of standards and product specifications for the materials and products as mentioned above.
  • Studies, analyses, and experts’ assessments in respect of problems related to the metallic and non-metallic material technology.
  • Assessing and revising of engineering drawings and design specifications in respect of correct selection of materials and heat treatment requirements.
  • Selecting of alternative materials and heat treatment methods for machine components, based on original engineering specifications or on the testing of sample products.
  • Designing of the related specialized test equipment.
  • Training of quality control specialists in the organization of test laboratories and in the methods of testing non-metallic materials and products.
  • Organizing of symposia and other meetings devoted to the problems related to the use of non-metallic materials in automotive vehicles.

Basic measuring and research equipment of the Laboratory:

  • Strength testing machines with load capacity ranges of up to 300 kN (Instron, Louis-Schopper);
  • Hardness testing machines: IRHD (Wallace) for micro-hardness tests and IRHD (Zwick), Shore, and Rockwell, Brinnel, Vickers for macro-hardness tests;
  • Impact testing machines with measuring ranges of up to 4 J (Izod, Dynstat) and up to 50 J (Charpy);
  • Fadeometer, weatherometer, ozonotest;
  • Climatic chambers with temperature range from  70ºC to +150ºC and heat-impact chambers with temperature range of up to +500ºC;
  • Test chambers for salt spray tests;
  • Combustibility testing chamber, radiation lamp, and frame for vertical burning of textiles to Polish National Standard PN-ISO 3795:1996 and EU Directive 95/28/EC, 1995 Annexes IV, V, and VI;
  • Machines and equipment for fatigue and endurance tests.

The Laboratory has also the following manufacturing equipment:

  • Injection moulding machine of 100 ÷ 200 g capacity;
  • Rubber vulcanising presses of 10 t and 40 t maximum thrust;
  • Laboratory rolling mill.

Accreditation Certificate No. AB 082 issued by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005) within the scope of:

  • Testing of non-metallic materials used in automotive vehicles (rubber, plastics, friction linings, materials for gaskets and seals, fabrics, etc.)
  • Testing of metallic materials and products and protective coatings thereof.

The Laboratory carries out type-approval tests of automotive vehicles for conformity with the following UN-ECE Regulations:

  • UN-ECE Regulation No. 90 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of replacement brake lining assemblies and drum brake linings for power-driven vehicles and their trailers';
  • UN-ECE Regulation No. 34, Annex 5 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to the prevention of fire risks'.

The Laboratory carries out tests for conformity with the following EU Directives:

  • Directive 95/28/EC, Annexes IV, V, and VI 'Burning behaviour of materials used in interior construction of certain categories of motor vehicles';
  • Directive 70/221/EEC, Annex I 'Liquid fuel tanks for motor vehicles'.
