The Automotive Industry Institute PIMOT® was found by Polish Council of Ministers in 1972, as the automotive industry Research and Development unit.

PIMOT`s lines of activity cover scientific, R&D works and automotive products testing services. Institute is a separate and independent unit. It makes an unquestionable basic for impartiality of its opinion and test result obtained.

Activities of Laboratory apply to:
  • Testing of automotive vehicles for conformity with international regulations and Polish standard specifications applicable to vehicle steering and braking systems.
  • Examining of the stability and steerability of automotive vehicles.
  • Testing of the performance and fuel economy of vehicles of any type.
  • Carrying out of weight measurements of automotive vehicles and tractor-trailer or tractor-semitrailer units of various types, with the determining of the weight distribution onto particular axes and wheels, including the centre of mass location parameters.
  • Examining of the strength and endurance of vehicle structures and component parts during long operation.
Basic research equipment of the Laboratory:
  • ESAM Traveller 1 and Correvit EEP 10 computer systems for the acquisition and recording of measurement data;
  • Test system referred to as 'Programmable Driver';
  • Flowtronic 206-207, Flowtronic 215-217, and Pierburg flow meters;
  • Measuring amplifiers and a wide variety of displacement, pressure, and load transducers;
  • LFW weighing stands for passenger cars and motor trucks;
  • Lateral static stability testing unit (a tilting platform).

The Laboratory is authorized by the Ministry of Transport to carry out type-approval tests for conformity with the following UN-ECE Regulations and EU Directives:

  • UN-ECE Regulation No. 13 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles of categories M, N and O with regard to braking';
  • UN-ECE Regulation No. 79 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to steering equipment';
  • UN-ECE Regulation No. 90 'Uniform provisions concerning the approval of replacement brake lining assemblies and drum-brake linings for power-driven vehicles an their trailers';
  • Directive 70/311/EEC - Steering equipment for motor vehicles and their trailers;
  • Directive 71/320/EEC - Braking devices of certain categories of motor vehicles and their trailers;
  • Directive 76/432/EEC - Braking devices.
  • Directive 2001/85/EC - Special provisions for vehicles used for the carriage of passengers comprising more than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat, and adaptation of Directive.
Accreditation Certificate No. AB 082 issued by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005) within the scope of:
  • Static and dynamic testing of automotive vehicles
