Smart Cities: Energy Efficiency in Sustainable Urban Development

The conference will focus on best practices as well as governance issues (policies and instruments). It will cover the following topics:

  • The role of spatial planning in improving energy efficiency.
  • Sustainable Energy Systems, i.e. how to develop local energy systems more efficiently and based on renewable energy sources (biomass, geothermal heat etc.), decentralized produc-tion of renewable energy, demand side management and solutions related to smart grid.Housing, i.e. how to facilitate and promote energy efficient housing, in new city districts as well as during refurbishment of older buildings/areas.
  • Mobility & transport, i.e. how to facilitate and promote low energy (and less polluting) modes of transport, as walking & bicycling, energy efficient public transport (based on renewable energy), less vehicle use and clean vehicles.

The conference venue at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development will offer space for exhibitions. Study tours in Warsaw will be arranged during the second day.

This conference is organized by the Swedish-Polish Sustainable Energy Platform secretariats at IIIEE –Lund University and PIMOT, under the patronage of Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and Development,in close collaboration with Swedish Energy Agency, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Stockholm, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in Warsaw, the City of Zabrze, Sustainable Business Hub, Baltic Biogas Bus, and Motor Transport Institute.
